Tom Brady makes it look easy

Is it Sunday yet? Patriot football is back with a bang. Tom Brady brought his UGG's and talents to south beach last night. The offense was firing on all cylinders. Aaron Rodgers is not the only one who is going to be slinging it around this season. It's pretty bad when a player gets cut from the team the next day for getting lit up all night. Benny Sapp who was burned by Wes Welker for a 99 yard touchdown is no longer employed. The Patriots tight ends combined for 13 catches, 189 yards and 2 touchdowns. They are both primed to have monster seasons. Tom Brady finished the night with 517 yards and 4 touchdowns. He set a franchise and career high for passing yards. The scary part is Chad Ochocinco only had 1 catch for 14 yards. Chad Ochocinco is still clearly behind. As he starts to become more accustom to the Patriots playbook, he is going to only make things more difficult for opposing teams.

The defense on the other hand still has some work to do. Their are a lot of new faces on the defense, so it is understandable there will be some growing pains. They gave up 488 yards given to the Miami Dolphins offense. Although that is a lot, it really does not tell the whole story. 211 of those yards came on the last 3 drives while the defense was playing the lead. As far as what stood out on the defense, Albert Haynesworth played very well. He was having his way with the Dolphins offensive line.  Also, Ras-I Dowling's coverage against Brandon Marshall and overall was solid.  The Patriots defense is only going to get better.

The Red Sox continue their slump

The Red Sox are 3-8 over their last 11 games. With the season coming to a close, they have picked the wrong time to be in the middle of a slump. Their pitching needs to be better if they want to have any success in the postseason. John Lackey has earned himself the worst ERA of any Red Sox pitcher with 25 starts ever. Tim Wakefield is not getting better. The pressure of trying to obtain his 200th career win has gotten the best of him. Josh Beckett is hurt once again. Eric Bedard is also hurt, and he hasn't been anything to write home about. Daniel Bard has looked very shaky as of recent. Clay Buchholz are you still out?

Six captains selected by the Patriots

Tom Brady (10th time)
Jerod Mayo (3rd time)
Vince Wilfork (4th time)
Logan Mankins
Devin McCourty
Matthew Slater

Surprised to see Logan Mankins selected as a captain after the whole hold out situation. It speaks volumes about the respect the team has for him.

Randy Moss returning to the Patriots?

Tom Brady said this morning he would welcome Randy Moss back with "open arms". With Brandon Tate gone now. The Patriots are left with Matthew Slater as their lone deep threat. Randy Moss would certainly be an upgrade over him.

Albert Haynesworth and Shaun Ellis to Make Their Patriots Debut Tonight

98.5 The Sports Hub is reporting that Albert Haynesworth and Shaun Ellis will make their debut with the Patriots tonight. It will be interesting to see how the defense will look with both of them on the line along with Vince Wilfork. If you were looking for a reason to watch the all mighty fourth preseason game, this would be a good enough reason to.  Also rookies, Shane Vereen and Ras-I Dowling are both expected to make their debut with the Patriots tonight. 98.5 Sports Hub also reports that Tom Brady and company will play at least a quarter.

Jerod Mayo On The Cover of Sports Illustrated

Will J.D. Drew Return As An Everyday Player?

J.D. Drew is set to be activated this Thursday. The question is: Will J.D. Drew regain his starting position? With Josh Reddick cooling off as of late, it seems like he just might. This will be J.D. Drew's last year in Boston as he hits free agency next year. He should be well rested and healthy at this point. There is no telling what the Red Sox are going to get out of J.D. Drew at this point. With the postseason approaching, it's time to see what J.D. Drew has left to offer.

James Sanders Cut. Opening the Door for Darren Sharper?

James Sanders was the big name among the cuts today made by the Patriots. This comes as a surprise because James Sanders was a well-respected veteran in the locker room. There was speculation Brandon Meriweather may not make the team this year. This tell me they aren't ready to pull the plug on him yet. There is always the possibility the Patriots may try to bring in a veteran safety to replace James Sanders. Maybe sign"one of the most hardest hitting safeties in the league Darren Sharper". The Patriots had brought him in for a workout previously. Also, Darren Sharper did re-tweet a fan saying:

Don't be surprised if Darren Sharper is in a Patriots uniform at the start of the season. I wouldn't put it past Bill Belichick

First Fantasy Draft of the Year

I completed the first of four fantasy drafts tonight. 12 team PPR fantasy league. Only one Patriot player. Devin McCourty. I usually don't draft Patriot players. Tom Brady likes to spread the ball around to much. I would take Tom Brady, but he usually goes to early for my liking.

Good Thing it's Still Preseason

Well that was an embarrassing loss. It's a good thing it's still preseason. After the first two Patriots games, they looked unbeatable. Well the Lions were not buying that. The Lions stomped out the Patriots 34-10.  Hey Bart Scott what do you think of the Patriots defense last night? "They can't stop a nose bleed".  Matt Stafford had his way with the Patriots defense. Lighting them up for 200 yards and 2 touchdowns.  The Patriots offense was nothing to brag about last night either. Tom Brady was getting knocked around all night. The Patriots offense line was like swiss cheese. It's time for the Patriots to get back to the drawing board, and get the problems fixed before the regular season starts.

Your AL MVP: Jack-oby Ellsbury

Jacoby Ellsbury has put it all together after an injury plagued season last year. Fans were calling him "soft" and wanted him out of town. Well that sent Ellsbury on a mission. He entered this season with a point to prove, and Red Sox nation he has most certainly proved it. He just hit his 23rd homerun. We are talking about the speedy leadoff man who won us all a taco during the 2007 World Series. Yes I enjoyed that free taco. His previous high for a season was 9 homeruns. He really has become five-tool superstar. I know this sounds like a homer pick for MVP, but I can't think of a more deserving player to give the MVP award to. Get used to hearing his name Red Sox nation because he is going to be the face of the franchise for years to come. Theo Epstein will not screw this one up. Big dollars are coming his way soon.

Crawford placed on Waivers?

There are reports Carl Crawford was placed on the Waiver Wire today. I highly doubt they are giving up on Crawford already. Is he going be JD Drew all over again? I don't think so. I have a feeling he is going to help out the Sox tremendously in the postseason. Are the Sox trying to cut ties with Crawford to get ready to make a big offer to Jacoby Ellsbury? Stay tuned to see how this all shakes down..

Big Papi set to return

David Ortiz is set to return to the Red Sox lineup tonight against the Texas Rangers after missing the last 9 games. This is good news for the Sox as well as for my Fantasy team. With the season winding down, the Red Sox need to get as healthy as possible to make one last big push to win the AL East. In other Red Sox news, I heard that JD Drew guy is thinking about coming back.
